Our Mandate

A permanent home for Black queer lives in Ireland

Affirming Black Irish identities as integral to the nation's queer fabric rather than peripheral to it.

Historical Necessity

Dismantling isolation at the intersection of race and gender

Pride of Colour Ireland was established to cultivate safety, connection, and systemic advocacy for Black LGBTQI+ people across Ireland. For too long, the lived experiences of Black queer individuals have been marginalized within standard civic frameworks, encountering an acute sense of isolation where racial background and sexual orientation intersect.

Our work challenges the persistent presumption that Black Irish experiences are merely migratory. By grounding our development in collective wellbeing and rights, we lay the institutional groundwork required to move from initial community consultation into structured, sustainable programmes that honour our full humanity.

Initiative Leadership

Led by community, shaped by lived experience

The foundational initiative is proposed by co-founders Binta Kyauta Salam (Kay Salam) and Anna Chivuga Keane. Their vision centers community-led agency and intentional care, ensuring that the organisation's development is steered directly by those who sit in the room and live these realities every day.
